TL; DR

- When it comes to the front fascia, the Punch borrows heavily from the Punch EV, and also from the latest-generation Tata Nexon (to a good extent).
- The 2026 Tata Punch gets the two-spoke steering wheel we’ve seen on other newer Tata models. Another change is the 10.25-inch floating touchscreen at the center of the dashboard, which features slim bezels on all sides.
- Putting the punch in the new Tata Punch is the 1.2-liter three-cylinder turbo petrol engine (with a six-speed manual transmission) borrowed from the Tata Nexon.

Finally! Tata Punch will offer the punch buyers and owners have been asking for, thanks to the new turbo-petrol powertrain borrowed straight from the Nexon (but there’s a catch). Alongside the new engine, the 2026 Tata Punch has received a complete redesign, from its streamlined, sleek exteriors to its upmarket cabin experience, and a revised price list with rejigged variant naming.
There’s plenty of ground to cover. So, fasten your seatbelt, turn off traction control, and let’s discuss everything that’s new about the mid-life update for Tata’s sub-compact SUV: the Punch.

2026 Tata Punch: Exterior & Interior Changes

To simplify this section, I’ll break it down into points so you can see the number of changes to the new Tata Punch as well.
Exterior
- When it comes to the front fascia, the Punch borrows heavily from the Punch EV, and also from the latest-generation Tata Nexon (to a good extent). You get the new eyebrow-shaped LED DRLs on the sides in a slimmer black grille, vertically stacked LED headlights (similar to the new Nexon and Altroz), an aggressive center grille, and a silver skidplate at the bottom, around the air intakes.
- While the Punch’s side profile is mostly intact, Tata Motors has equipped the vehicle with new 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels. Other design elements, such as the cuts and creases, the roofline, the hidden rear-door handle, and the blacked-out cladding at the bottom, remain the same.
- At the rear, the Punch features a modern-looking connected LED taillight cluster and a larger skidplate at the bottom.
- Colors: Bengal Rouge, Caramel, Coorg Clouds, Cyantafic, Daytona Grey, and Pristine White.

Moreover, the new Tata Punch looks sleeker and more modern while retaining its upright, muscular stance.

Interior
- The 2026 Tata Punch gets the two-spoke steering wheel we’ve seen on other newer Tata models. It also houses the media controls on the left and the cruise controls (on select models) on the right, with an illuminated Tata logo in the center.
- Another change is the 10.25-inch floating touchscreen at the center of the dashboard, which features slim bezels on all sides. The infotainment system supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. There’s another seven-inch screen placed behind the steering wheel (borrowed from the Altroz).
- While the placement and design of the air conditioning vents remain the same, the climate control panel now features a touch-enabled interface (which may be beneficial or a drawback, depending on your preference).
- The blue-and-gray fabric upholstery seats now include extendable thigh support for both front and rear passengers.

- Other features include an eight-speaker system (four speakers plus four tweeters, likely on the top trims), a 360-degree camera system, 65W USB-C wired charging, rear AC vents, cruise control, a rear armrest (without cupholders), and an auto-dimming IRVM.
- A single-pane sunroof is also offered with select trims as an optional upgrade.
- Based on the variant you get, you can also get features like keyless entry with push-button start/stop, multiple drive modes, paddle shifters with the AMT variants, height-adjustable driver seats, and an air purifier.
2026 Tata Punch: Powertrain Options

Putting the punch in the new Tata Punch is the 1.2-liter three-cylinder turbo petrol engine (with a six-speed manual transmission) borrowed from the Tata Nexon. Beyond the new engine, there are the 1.2-liter three-cylinder NA petrol and NA + CNG powertrains, both available with manual and automatic transmissions.
| 1.2-liter 3-cylinder NA Petrol | 1.2-liter 3-cylinder NA Petrol + CNG | 1.2-liter 3-cylinder Turbo-Petrol | |
| Peak Power | 88 PS | 73.5 PS | 120 PS |
| Peak Torque | 115 Nm | 103 Nm | 170 Nm |
| Transmission Options | 5-speed manual, 5-speed AMT | 5-speed manual, 5-speed AMT | 6-speed manual |
Given that the engine powers a larger, heavier car, it should feel quite peppy and responsive in the smaller, lighter Punch. It can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in around 11.1 seconds, which is quite decent. Hence, the new Punch, with the turbo-petrol engine, should appeal to both regular buyers and enthusiasts. You should also know that the new Punch offers AMT with the CNG powertrain.

Smartprix’s Take On New Tata Punch…

The Punch remains one of the best-selling cars in Tata’s portfolio, primarily due to its affordable price, comfortable ride, and a five-star crash rating, which is increasingly important to safety-conscious buyers. However, if there’s been one complaint, even among long-term Punch customers, it was quite literally the lack of punch or enthusiastic driving character in the car (which could easily be attributed to its NA engine).
However, by equipping its sub-compact SUV with a turbo-petrol engine, Tata has practically saved the Punch, injecting it with much-needed performance and responsiveness while retaining the strengths that made it popular in the first place. The result is a far more well-rounded package that finally aligns the Punch’s robust, SUV-inspired design with an engine that feels eager and engaging, making it an even more compelling choice in its segment.
