Apple iOS 18 beta 4 is already out, but it doesn’t contain a glimpse of Apple Intelligence. At the Worldwide Developers Conference 2024, the Cupertino-based tech giant gave us the first glimpse of the suite of AI-based features that would power Apple Intelligence, the company’s rival to Galaxy AI. However, it has been a few months, and not even developers, let alone beta testers, have to test the GenAI features showcased at the event. Will Apple Intelligence be able to make it in time for the iPhone 16 launch in September 2024, or will we have to wait until next year to get our hands on it?

GenAI Features To Arrive For Developers In August

Apple Intelligence's delayed rollout

According to Apple’s developer website, Apple Intelligence “will be available in an upcoming beta.” In other words, it would be an iOS 18 developer beta version that will preview the GenAI-powered features for the first time. With iOS 18, Apple Intelligence should also be available in the developer beta of iPadOS 18 and macOS Sequoia. Given that iOS 18 is due for a public launch in September, Apple Intelligence should be available in a developer beta sometime in August.

While developer beta should get an early glimpse at the Apple Intelligence features, public beta users might not get it until late August or early September. The timeline remains a speculation, so readers should take it with a pinch of salt.

Apple Intelligence Could Be Delayed To iOS 18.1

iOS 18 compatibility list

Regarding the public launch of the GenAI features, it could get delayed to iOS 18.1, arriving later in the fall (October or November), and there are good reasons for it. First, it might be difficult for developers to integrate Apple Intelligence or make good use of it after they get access in August (as the launch could take place sometime in early September). Secondly, some Apple Intelligence features that require heavy processing might be delayed until early next year.

After the public launch, the GenAI features will be available to a limited set of devices, including the iPhone 15 Pro models and purported iPhone 16. According to a report by 9To5Mac, the AI features could first arrive with a beta label, implying that they might not function immediately after launch. Anyway, we’re excited about GenAI features and have already set up public beta updates on our iPhone to keep you posted about the latest iOS 18 features.
