Apple is all set to launch its annual iPhone Series in September/October 2023. The iPhone 15 Series is said to have 4 models- iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro & iPhone 15 Pro Max. Not only will Apple sell its iPhones in India, but the brand has been working on expanding its manufacturing base in the country. Latest reports claim the same might begin from this year itself as some of the iPhones in the 2023 series will be ‘Made in India’.

As per a report by TrendForce, the California-based tech giant is all set to manufacture the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus models in India. These are expected to be around 5% of total production and Tata Group will assemble the handsets in the country.

“Due to geopolitical and pandemic, Apple has been accelerating the diversification of its supply sources, with India being the most well-known case for such transfers.” India’s Tata Group will become the 4th iPhone assembler for Apple, the report by TrendForce claims.

Initially, Tata Group will get only small orders for iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, which will soon increase as the manufacturer is able to meet the standards. There might be 3 effects of this relocation plan by Apple.

Number 1 is that this development could indicate that India will be part of the 1st wave of shipments for the new iPhone series that is expected to come out this September.

Number 2 could be Tata’s entry into the iPhone assembly might mean Wistron’s exit from India as Tata has already taken over Wistron’s Bengaluru plant.

Number 3 Tata will be the 4th firm to take part in the iPhone assembly business in India, which initially started in 2020 for iPhone 12 Pro Max assembly. Other than Tata, Foxconn, Luxshare and Pegatron have iPhone assembly plants in India.

Tata’s share in iPhone assembly

Tata Group will assemble only 5% of Apple’s iPhone 15 series phones, while the major share will still remain with Foxconn (70% for iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max & 60% for iPhone 15 Plus), Luxshare (25% for iPhone 15 & 15 Pro Max orders) and Pegatron (35% of iPhone 15 Plus and 30% of iPhone 15 Pro).

Tata Group will not have any share in the Pro line-up as of now, but the brand might start manufacturing higher models in the future.

The Apple iPhone 15 Series, expected to debut in September 2023, will come powered by Apple’s own A16 Bionic chipset and run the latest ios software.
