After the M3 MacBook Air last week, Apple could launch the third-generation Apple Pencil this month. Before the MacBooks came out, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman mentioned the laptops in his report, along with the possibility of Apple releasing new Apple Pencils in the “next several weeks.” Now, another tipster from China has corroborated the claim, predicting that the Apple Pencil (3rd Generation) might be on its way.

The Last Apple Pencil Came Out in 2018

The last time we got an Apple Pencil upgrade from Apple was in 2018 when the company released the second-generation product. Yes, we know the company also unveiled an Apple Pencil USB-C version in 2023, but that was just a minor upgrade over the first-generation device. Hence, it is safe to say that a proper successor to the Apple Pencil (2nd Generation), praised by professionals and regular users alike, hasn’t arrived yet.

New Apple Pencil Expected This Year

However, that could change this month. According to the Chinese tipster Instant Digital, the Cupertino-based tech giant could release the Apple Pencil (3rd Generation) in March 2024. Regarding features, the stylus should have a shorter body. Instead of the matte finish on the Apple Pencil (2nd Generation), the next-generation stylus might have a glossier finish. For creative professionals, the pencil should also offer different magnetically attachable tips that provide different finishes for a more detailed look.

Apple Pencil (3rd Generation) Expected Features

The Apple Pencil (3rd Generation) could also be compatible with Find My Network, which would allow users to locate the device if it is lost. However, we don’t know whether it will feature an ultrawideband chip for Precise Location tracking. Last but not least, the stylus should feature a USB-C port. Along with all the upgrades, the upcoming device’s price could also be higher. We expect it to cost around Rs. 15,000 to 20,000 in India.

Given that Apple is expected to release two new iPad Pro models soon with OLED displays, it makes sense that a new stylus will arrive for these devices. The new iPad Pro models could be powered by an M3 chipset. In the past, we’ve also heard about seeing a new Magic Trackpad with the aesthetic of a MacBook.
