Amidst the ouster and rehiring of Sam Altman, OpenAI has dropped a major ChatGPT feature for all users. It will enable users to use ChatGPT with their voice. Initially, the voice ability was available to the paying members. However, it is now available to all users of the AI chatbot, including those who use GPT 3.5 for free, as well as ChatGPT Plus subscribers.

Here’s How OpenAI Announced ChatGPT With Voice

OpenAI announced the new feature via a post on the microblogging platform X on November 22, 2023. Interestingly, the post contains an example of how ChatGPT with voice works, wherein someone asks the platform, “How many 16-inch pizzas should I order for 778 people,” which happens to be the total size of the OpenAI team, given that it’s been a long night for them.

ChatGPT, in response, replies, “for a large group of 778 people, assuming an average of three slices of pizza per person, and each 16-inch pizza provides around 12 slices, you’ll need to order around 195 pizzas.” In addition, the chatbot also asks whether the person would like to know where to place the order or anything else about organizing food for a large group.

How To Use ChatGPT With Voice?

To use ChatGPT with voice, users must download the app on their phone, create a free account, and, upon arriving on the chatbot screen, they should press the headphones icon to start a conversation. In a way, interacting with ChatGPT over voice could be more insightful and helpful than asking other voice assistants like Siri, Alexa, or Google Assistant simply because the former has access to a vast database.

It is a bit weird that the company decided to drop the feature amid the drama and chaos about Altman’s firing and rejoining the company; ChatGPT with voice also indicates that the recent happenings haven’t affected the product roadmap yet.
