Dharma Productions and Karan Johar are back with a sequel to the 2018 romance drama Dhadak starring Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter. Dhadak 2 is all set to release in cinemas tomorrow, and the movie this time stars powerhouse performers Tripti Dimri and Siddhant Chaturvedi in lead roles. Though the movie is a spiritual sequel to Dhadak, the story is totally different and based on the Tamil film Pariyerum Perumal, which is relevant even today. Dhadak 2: OTT Platform & Release Date
OTT Platform Netflix India has acquired the rights to stream Dhadak 2, following a 60-day gap after its theatrical release. So, this one will be available on OTT in early October 2025.
Dhadak 2: Trailer
The film was first supposed to be released on 15th May, but was later adjusted to 1 November. However, a month ago, it was confirmed to be 1st August 2025.
Dhadak 2: Limited Release Strategy
Ahead of its theatrical release, makers have opted for a controlled release strategy with the main focus on multiplexes. Initially, the movie will release on 1000-1200 screens across India, and the idea is to increase the screen count and showcase it in its opening weekend, which will depend on the demand of the audience. The movie is expected to open between Rs. 3.75 crore to Rs. 5 crore on the opening day.

Dhadak 2: Plot
Neelesh, an idealistic student from a marginalized section of society, enrolls in a prominent institution where he falls in love with Vidhi, a fellow student belonging to a higher cast. This promising story of love quickly becomes a depressing tale exploring social exclusion, hierarchy, and identity. Neelesh has to confront the unpleasant truths that he cannot evade with his education and resolve alone.
Dhadak 2: Cast & Crew
The movie stars Tripti Dimri and Siddhant Chaturvedi in lead roles, along with a supporting cast including Deeksha Joshi, Saurabh Sachdeva, Vipin Sharma, Manjiri Pupala, Dishank Arora, Harish Khanna, and others.
The film is directed by Shazia Iqbal and produced by Dharma Productions, Zee Studios, and Cloud 9 Pictures. This is Shazia’s directorial debut.
How is Dhadak 2 different from Dhadak 1?
The 2018 Dhadak was based on the Marathi film Sairat, while this one is based on the Tamil movie Pariyerum Perumal, addressing issues of caste inequality in educational systems in its adaptation. Shazia Iqbal has tried to keep a romantic core while navigating this social drama.
