The Meta-owned instant messaging platform WhatsApp has launched a new chat filters feature. The feature helps users get to a specific category of messages. For instance, if someone wants to check the unread messages, they can do so by tapping the chat filter at the top of the screen. Similarly, two more categories make navigating through messages easier.

WhatsApp Chat Filters

Meta’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, announced the launch of these features through his official WhatsApp channel. “Opening WhatsApp and finding the right conversation should feel quick, seamless, and simple. As people increasingly do more on WhatsApp, it’s more important than ever to be able to get to your messages fast,” says the company. In total, the app has released three new chat filters.

Three New Chat Filters: All, Unread, And Groups

The three new WhatsApp chat filters include All, Unread, and Groups. While ‘All’ provides users with a comprehensive overview of their inbox, showing them all the messages chronologically, Unread shows users the messages they haven’t seen yet. This could be a very helpful filter, especially since it can give users an instant overview of the messages they haven’t gone through, decreasing the chances of missing important texts.

Last but not least, the Group chat filter provides users with a quick look at their group chats. In our day-to-day lives, locating and tracking group chats becomes difficult, especially amidst all the personal DMs. In such a scenario, the group chat filter can come in handy. Moreover, the new WhatsApp chat filters can help users get to the necessary messages in less time than what would go in manually searching for the message in a crowded inbox.

WhatsApp chat filters will roll out to Android and iOS users from April 16, 2024, and should be available to all users in the coming weeks. “We believe filters will make it easier for people to stay organized, find their most important conversations, and help navigate through messages more efficiently,” WhatsApp says in an official blog post.
