Google India has held a special ‘Google For India’ event today that took place in Delhi in front of a live audience and streamed online as well. Google Founder Sundar Pichai was also present during the event. The company has focused on the use of Artificial Intelligence to make the internet more accessible and useful for the people of India.

One of the main problems in India is not the accessibility but the limited usage of the internet by users. Google aims to use Artificial Intelligence in fields of health, agriculture, online safety, and more to make the internet even more useful in the country.

Google Digitization Fund

Google Digitization Fund will focus on Enabling Access to the Internet, building products for everyone, empowering businesses, especially women-led businesses, and leveraging technology for social good.

Project Vaani (AI for languages)

Google has partnered with the Indian Institute of Science to build a model called Project Vaani. It will collect language samples from 773 districts in the country and will ensure that the data collected under it will be open-sourced.

AI for farmers & agriculture

Google has decided to make the lives of farmers easier with remote sensing capabilities like the landscape understanding model that is being piloted in Telangana. The model can identify fields, and natural and man-made water bodies and will soon also be able to detect which crops are sown, when they are sown and when they will be harvested.

AI For health

Google has been helping expecting mothers in India for a few years now. In 2023, it will use AI to decipher handwritten prescriptions easier. Apollo has collaborated with Google to use AI to check an X-ray for TB.

Project Bindi

Project Bindi by Google will aim to understand the societal context and technological gaps. Google has sanctioned funds to help women tech makers, and entrepreneurs and also started DigiPivot for those women who are re-joining work after pregnancy.

AI-powered Google Search Engine

Google now comes with a multi-search feature for Indian languages that will help search with the help of images and text. You can now also search within a YouTube Video. Search pages will now be bilingual in India and voice search too will help those who use Hinglish to look for information. A person’s accent, context, etc. will also be taken into account. Google Project Relate is one such initiative that will help people who have non-standard speech to interact with the world around them. Project Relate works on 3 principles- Listen, Repeat and Assist.

YouTube India Updates

YouTube aims to focus on two main areas- health and education. YouTube Aloud can help dub original content at no extra cost and is being launched for health-based creators and partners. YouTube Learning is getting enhanced with Courses, that will provide organized content for learners and new monetization options for creators.

Google Pay

Google Pay will not be even more strict with its users. It will show more security alerts and warnings for suspicious transactions. Google Pay is also getting a transaction search via voice feature and desirable friction to help let users decide if they want to go ahead with a certain transaction or not. The ML algorithm will pop a warning in the regional language giving you a few more seconds to decide if you want to go ahead with a transaction or not. Safer Google blocks spam messages scans harmful apps, and protects devices.

Android For India

Google has integrated with DigiLocker to store all the documents digitally via the Files for Google app. It will arrange documents in order and prevent having multiple copies. In the future, all android phones will have Digi locker inbuilt into them.
