WhatsApp has been compressing photos and videos for years without giving users the choice to opt-out. Fortunately, the app recently rolled out an update that fixed this issue by allowing users to individually set photos and videos to HD resolution.

However, setting photos and videos to HD each time you want to send them is a task. To fix this as well, WhatsApp has rolled out a new update that allows users to always send photos and videos in HD resolution. Let’s see how.

Set All Photos to Videos to HD in WhatsApp

Before you go ahead and set all photos and videos to HD in WhatsApp, you need to make sure WhatsApp is updated to the latest version. Go to the Google Play Store, search for WhatsApp and tap Update.

Also, keep in mind that HD photos are usually up to 6 times larger than regular compressed photos; hence, uploading these photos and videos will take longer if you have a slow internet connection.

1. Open WhatsApp. Make sure you are using version 2.24.9.14 or newer.

2. Tap on the three dots and the top and select Settings.

3. Tap on Storage and data.

4. Then, tap Media upload quality.

5. Select HD quality and tap Save.

In my testing, I found that the media resolution is set to the highest available quality you’ve recently used. For instance, if you switch to HD quality and then manually send a photo or video in standard quality, the media upload quality will revert to standard.

Restart WhatsApp and now your photos and videos will be sent in HD resolution by default.

FAQs

1. Will sending HD photos and videos affect my data usage?

Yes, sending HD photos and videos will use more data compared to sending them in standard resolution. HD photos can be up to 6 times larger than compressed photos, so uploading them will take longer and consume more data, especially on slower internet connections.

2. Why are my WhatsApp photos and videos not in HD?

WhatsApp used to compress photos and videos by default, but recent updates have introduced the option to send media in HD resolution. If your media is not in HD, you may need to update WhatsApp to the latest version and manually set the media upload quality to HD in the settings.
