The “Awe Dropping” witnessed the launch of four iPhone models (as expected): the vanilla iPhone 17, the iPhone 17 Pro, the iPhone 17 Pro Max, and the first of its kind iPhone Air. There are upgrades across the lineup, including the vanilla iPhone 17, which receives the most-awaited higher refresh rate upgrade, along with a new chipset. Meanwhile, the iPhone 17 Pro models gain a third 48MP sensor, upgrading the entire camera setup to the exact resolution.

There’s a lot of ground to cover, so let’s discuss the entire lineup in detail, including its key features, specifications, and pricing.

iPhone 17: Key Specifications & Features

  • Color: Lavender, Sage, Mist Blue, White, Black

The baseline model in Apple’s 2025 lineup, the iPhone 17, features a slightly larger 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR OLED screen that, for the first time, supports the ProMotion display technology (ranging from 1 to 120Hz). In addition, the screen also supports the always-on display functionality, a welcome addition for buyers looking forward to upgrading to the vanilla variant.

The peak brightness (2,000 nits), pixel density (approximately 460 ppi), and the overall screen-to-body ratio remain unchanged. Protecting the screen is Apple’s latest Ceramic Shield Glass (2025 generation), which offers higher durability than the previous generation. It offers 3x better scratch resistance than the last generation. The iPhone 17’s screen also includes a seven-layer anti-reflective coating, making the screen more readable.

Under the hood, the baseline version runs on Apple’s new A19 (3nm) chip, which is based on TSMC’s latest N3E fabrication process. The chipset includes a six-core CPU, a five-core GPU, and a 16-core NPU, which, altogether, provides up to 20% faster performance than the baseline A18 chip on the iPhone 16.

The chipset is paired with 8GB of RAM (the bare minimum to support Apple Intelligence) and up to 512GB of NVMe storage. Interestingly, the phone bumps up the base storage to 256GB. Regarding optics, the iPhone 17 retains the dual camera setup, but this time, Apple has combined a 48MP primary camera with a 48MP ultrawide camera, which captures sharper images. Furthermore, a new Center Stage camera (featuring a square sensor) is located on the front, offering a wider field of view similar to the Center Stage cameras on the iPhone.

Powering the iPhone is a 3,692 mAh (unofficial) battery, which increases the video playback time by eight hours when compared to the iPhone 16 (should be around 30 hours, as the iPhone 16). The iPhone 17 also charges faster, charging up to 50% in 20 minutes. While the Indian units still allow you to use a SIM, several international units ship without a SIM tray, meaning they are eSIM-only.

iPhone 17 Pricing & Availability

Following its launch today, the iPhone 17 will be available for pre-order starting September 12, 2025, with the general sale beginning on September 19, 2025.

iPhone Air: Key Specifications & Features

  • Colors: Sky Blue, Light Gold, Cloud White, Space Black

With the baseline iPhone 17, Apple has also unveiled the thinnest iPhone to date, the iPhone Air, at the “Awe Dropping” September launch event. At its thinnest, the Air measures 5.6mm, making it thinner than the Galaxy S25 Edge, which was launched earlier this year.

Furthermore, the phone weighs 146 grams, which is 17 grams lighter than the S25 Edge. The iPhone Air is also the first non-Pro iPhone from Apple to feature a hybrid titanium-aluminum frame, which balances rigidity and weight for an exceptionally slim chassis.

Regarding the display, the iPhone Air features a LTPO Super Retina XDR OLED 120Hz 6.5-inch screen. Under the hood, the iPhone Air houses the same A19 Pro chip as the one on the Pro iPhones (but with one less GPU core). Interestingly, the design-focused iPhone is the one that gets a base storage bump from 128GB to 256GB (with 512GB and 1TB storage available as well).

Regarding optics, the iPhone Air gets a 48MP (f/1.6, sensor-shift stabilization) rear-facing camera and an 18MP front-facing Center Stage camera with autofocus. Powering the slimmest iPhone is a 3,149 mAh battery for the eSIM-only models and a 3,036 mAh battery for the nano SIM models (which will be sold in India).

Furthermore, the handset will also support MagSafe wireless charging, like the other models. If you want to get your hands on the iPhone Air but are concerned about the battery life, you can also opt for the new slimmer MagSafe charging case, which increases the total video playback time to around 40 hours.

  • Colors: Silver, Cosmic Orange, Deep Blue

The most affordable Pro iPhone on the new lineup, the iPhone 17 Pro and the iPhone 17 Pro Max feature a 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch ProMotion Super Retina XDR display that supports a 120Hz refresh rate, or what Apple calls ProMotion display, and the latest generation Ceramic Shield Glass protection.

Under the hood, the iPhone 17 Pro features the A19 Pro (3nm), which sets new benchmarks for smartphone performance (including the flagship Android chips). The chipset features a six-core CPU, a six-core GPU, and a 16-core NPU, which delivers up to 40% better sustained performance than the A18 Pro on the iPhone 16 Pro. The CPU consists of two performance cores

The camera setup is where the iPhone 17 Pro gets another major upgrade. While it retains the 48MP primary camera and the 48MP ultrawide camera, it also features a new 48MP (f/2.8) periscope sensor paired with a 4x telephoto zoom lens (at 100mm) and offers 8x optical-quality zoom (at 200mm).

On the front, the handset gets the new 18MP (f/1.9) TrueDepth camera system with autofocus. Powering the handset is a larger battery (available on both the nano SIM and eSIM-only models) that increases video playback time up to 31 hours on the Pro and 37 hours on the Pro Max. The phones can charge up to 50% in 20 minutes with 40W or higher adapter and up to 50% in 30 minutes with 30W adapter or higher.
