MediaTek Dimensity 1200 5G arrives in India; Will be equipped within a Realme flagship

MediaTek has formally brought its latest flagship processor Dimensity 1200 5G chipset to India. The announcement has been made during the 8th MediaTek Technology Diaries event held on April 20 virtually. Sharing the stage, Realme also made it official that they will be the first brand to unveil a smartphone with this platform.

MediaTek had previously introduced the 6nm-based Dimensity 1200 processor globally in January 2021. Also, Realme GT Neo was announced in China with this chipset which strongly hints at its imminent arrival in India as well. Although, Realme has not specified the device’s name and launch details during today’s announcement.

Realme GT Neo (China)

Madhav Sheth, Realme India Head said during the event, “Realme will be launching India’s first Dimensity 1200 powered smartphone very soon. The high-performance SoC will evolve the average owner’s smartphone usage exponentially, with enhanced video and photography capabilities, gaming technology, refresh displays, and an AI processor.”

MediaTek Dimensity 1200 5G Specs

The architecture of MediaTek Dimensity 1200 5G SoC is based on a 6nm process with a CPU having eight cores. The processor is said to achieve 22% faster performance and reduce 25% power consumption than previous generation platforms. The clock speed of MediaTek Dimensity 1200 is 3GHz. It features ARM Mali-G77 MC9 GPU and six-core MediaTek APU 3.0 offering 12.5% better graphics, display, and AI capabilities. 

The Dimensity 1200 5G platform can support up to a 200MP camera sensor and 168Hz displays. The chipset is marketed as a gaming processor as it is powered by MediaTek HyperEngine 3.0 gaming technology and Ray Traced graphics capabilities. The chipset support dual-sim 5G and has passed the TÜV Rheinland certification criteria for its 5G performance. 

The 5G-supported MediaTek chipsets include MediaTek Dimensity 1000, MediaTek Dimensity 800U, and MediaTek Dimensity 700. Meanwhile, Redmi is also said to be working on its first gaming smartphone powered by Dimensity 1200 processor.
