Every year, MediaTek and Qualcomm compete for the title of the “most powerful Android processor.” While the Dimensity 9300 gave the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 a tough competition, Dimensity 9300+ managed to beat it at the popular benchmarks.
Fast forward to October 2024, MediaTek has released its Dimensity 9400 SoC, and Qualcomm is right at the cusp of unveiling the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor. And even though none of the chips have made it to a widely-available smartphone (yet), they have visited the popular benchmarking platforms like AnTuTu 10 and GeekBench 6, giving us a fair idea of what to expect in terms of raw performance.

Dimensity 9400 Vs. Snapdragon 8 Elite: AnTuTu Score

Most recently, the Dimensity 9400 SoC visited AnTuTu 10 benchmarking platform. The test unit was a vivo X200 Pro, and it scored a whopping 3,007,853 points. While the CPU scored 652K points, the GPU scored 1.32M points. This was the first time a chipset surpassed 3M points on the platform. MediaTek also claims a similar AnTuTu 10 score for the chipset.
However, back in February 2024, the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset scored 3,133,570 points on the same platform. With this, the chipset broke the highest AnTuTu 10 benchmark record, wherein its CPU scored around 702K points, and the GPU scored around 1.33M points.
While the Dimensity 9400 SoC’s AnTuTu scores are fresh, the Snapdragon 8 Elite’s scores are eight-months-old. They could change when the processors debut on a commercially available smartphone. Nonetheless, the early AnTuTu scores suggest that the Snapdragon 8 Elite performs better.

Dimensity 9400 Vs. Snapdragon 8 Elite: GeekBench Scores

Most recently, the Dimensity 9400 SoC visited GeekBench 6. The listing, published on October 8, 2024, says that the processor scored 2,755 points in the single-core and 8,519 points in the multi-core tests. Further, it adds that the test unit (a vivo X200 series handset) had a 3.63GHz prime core and 16GB of RAM and ran on Android 15. These scores are in line with what the Oppo Find X8 Pro achieved on the platform (2,841/8,838).

According to another GeekBench 6 listing published on September 11, 2024, the Snapdragon 8 Elite scored 3,216 points in the single-core and 10,051 points in the multi-core tests. The listing also reveals that the test unit had two prime cores clocked at 4.32GHz, 16GB of RAM, and ran on Android 15. The clock speed of the prime cores suggests that this could be the full or overclocked version of the processor.
Upon comparing the GeekBench 6 scores, it does look like the Snapdragon 8 Elite has a huge advantage over the Dimensity 9400 SoC. However, the Snapdragon processor is reportedly facing overheating issues. Both the original and the underclocked versions of the processor seem to be consuming exceptionally high power under load, which results in overheating.

Nonetheless, there’s still some time left to in the Snapdragon Summit, and we hope that the company rectifies the issues before releasing the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor.
