Qualcomm is about to hold a launch event in a couple of days, and no, it’s not for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC. In October 2023, the California-based chip manufacturer launched the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, one of the most powerful chipsets on Android phones. The processor fuels the AI-based features on Samsung’s latest Galaxy S24 Ultra, while other flagships such as the iQoo 12 and OnePlus 12 harness its raw power to provide exceptional performance. Nonetheless, at the upcoming launch event, the company is expected to unveil to processors.

Mark Your Calendars To March 18: Snapdragon Launch Event

Snapdragon announcement on Weibo

In a post on the Chinese microblogging platform Weibo (published on March 11, 2024), Qualcomm teases about the new “Snapdragon flagship.” Per Google’s translation, the company will hold the “Snapdragon flagship new product launch conference” on March 18, 2024. Qualcomm also hints at AI capabilities at the “core” of the upcoming chipsets. However, the company didn’t reveal many details about the upcoming mobile platform.

Qualcomm Might Reveal Two Chipsets At The Event

According to a report by GizmoChina, Qualcomm could reveal two processors at the March 18 launch event. These could include the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 and the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3. It is important to mention here that rumors about these chipsets have been circulating online for quite some time. Generally, the ‘s’ after the chipset’s name indicates that it is a slightly toned-down, more affordable version of a powerful processor. On the other hand, a plus suggests that it could be a refined version of its predecessor.

Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 Expected Specifications

iQoo 12 to feature Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC

The Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 is rumored to come with a Cortex-X4 core with a maximum clock speed of 3.01GHz, less than that of the 3.3GHz prime core on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Further, the upcoming processor should also come with four Cortex-A720 cores with a clock speed of 2.61GHz and three Cortext-A520 cores of 1.84GHz. Last but not least, it could also feature the Adreno 735 GPU, which is slightly less capable than the Adredno 750 GPU on 8 Gen 3. From what it looks like, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 could be a chipset for upper mid-range smartphones.

Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 Expected Specifications

The Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 SoC, on the other hand, could feature a Cortex-X4 core with a maximum clock speed of 2.9GHz, four Cortex-A720 cores clocked at 2.6GHz, and three Cortext-A520 cores clocked at 1.9GHz. Further, the processor will be paired with the Adreno 732 GPU. Both the chipsets are built on the same fabrication technology as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. In the near future, readers should expect several smartphones based on these chipsets, including the Realme GT Neo 6, the regular model of which could feature the 8s Gen 3 SoC, while the SE model could feature the 7+ Gen 3 SoC.
