The question remains: are these flagship earbuds worth their price of 6k? Let’s find out.

Cons

  • Buds are a smudge magnet

realme Buds Air 7 Pro: Sound

The realme Buds Air 7 Pro are equipped with coaxial dual drivers (6mm+11mm) and are Hi-res certified, supporting the LHDC 5.0 codec. They also feature Bluetooth 5.4 connectivity. When it comes to sound quality, the realme Buds Air 7 Pro delivers an impressive performance.

The default EQ tuning is a classic V-shape, where the mids are slightly recessed, allowing the lows and highs to stand out more. The separation of instruments in tracks like ‘Choudhary’ (Rajasthani folk) is quite clear, and the bass response is satisfactory as well.

Custom EQ can be utilized to boost the bass even more, and once that is accomplished, every beat in lively tracks such as ‘Laal Peeli Akhiyaan’ strikes you powerfully. Bass enthusiasts will appreciate the audio clarity. The LHDC 5.0 codec further enhances the sound quality, although the audio remains satisfactory even in its absence.

realme Buds Air 7 Pro: Design and Fit

realme has truly made an effort to innovate with the design of the Buds Air 7 Pro. The earbuds are housed in a square-shaped charging case crafted from aviation-grade aluminum, featuring a brushed texture and faux leather accents. This design is a refreshing change from the typical glossy plastic cases, and the best aspect of the case is that it resists smudges and fingerprints. The case’s design not only provides a premium feel when held but also improves its durability.

Realme offers four color choices: Fiery Red, Racing Green, Metallic Grey, and Glory Beige. For our review, we received the Green variant, which I found to be unique and sophisticated. Having more color options allows buyers to select one that matches their vibe and personality. The case weighs approximately 43 grams and is not bulky in your pocket.

The case features realme branding on the lid and includes the tagline ‘Make it real’ on the inside when opened. At the back, there is a USB-C charging port, while a green LED indicator is located at the front. Upon opening the case, you will discover the earbuds securely positioned, with a button situated between them for manual pairing. However, a minor drawback of the aluminum material used for the case is that it becomes quite cool to the touch in an air-conditioned room and warms up when exposed to hot outdoor conditions.

Discussing earbuds, these buds weigh only 4.89 grams each, ensuring that they remain comfortable even during extended use. Their ergonomic design provides a snug fit in the ear, and with an IP55 rating, they are resistant to both water and dust, making them particularly useful during the rainy season in India.

The ergonomic design ensures that the buds can fit any ear type, and it did prove true for me. Even when I jogged or exercised, the buds never loosened or fell off. The shape of the stem is slightly different from other buds, and it has a glossy finish that makes it look good but makes it a smudge magnet. The ear tips also have a yellow accent at the front.

realme Buds Air 7 Pro: Control App

The realme Link app provides several features that users can experiment with. The dynamic audio function can improve the low, mid, and high frequencies, resulting in a better audio experience. However, this enhancement is only noticeable at higher volume levels.

The Golden Sound feature allows for the customization of the user’s ear canal structure to provide the best possible audio experience. I experimented with this feature, but instead of enhancing my preferred audio type, it seemed to disrupt it.

Additionally, there is a Spatial audio feature that improves the echo effect and enhances the singer’s vocals in songs. I thoroughly enjoyed using this while listening to my favorite tracks such as Raanjhan from Do Patti, Tu Hai Toh by Arijit Singh, and Ishq Hai from the Mismatched album. However, I found it more effective to disable this feature when watching movies or videos, as dialogues are crucial in those contexts.

The volume enhancer toggle allows for an increase in the earbuds’ volume. If you tend to enjoy listening at elevated levels (which is not advisable), a volume setting of 50% is quite sufficient. Personally, I prefer lower volume levels, typically using the earbuds at around 35 to 40%. Additionally, Game Mode can minimize the latency between audio and video by up to 45ms, which proved to be adequate during gaming sessions.

The MindFlow mode is beneficial for those looking to drift off to sleep or soothe their thoughts with the sounds of nature. The Buds offer multi-point connectivity, which generally worked well, allowing for easy transitions between my phone and laptop. Nevertheless, the experience isn’t as smooth as desired, as there were instances where it took some time for me to answer a call on the laptop while in the midst of a music session.

Functions such as Find My Phone and the Earbud fit test enhance user convenience, while the application also shows the charging status for both the case and the earbuds. Additionally, Google Fast Pair is offered for effortless connectivity.

Connecting the earbuds to my phone was quite simple. I just activated the Bluetooth on my phone and opened the case of the Buds Air 7 Pro. Initially, I pressed the manual pairing button for 3 seconds, which allowed the buds to become detectable. After that, they automatically connected whenever Bluetooth was enabled and the case was opened.

realme Buds Air 7 Pro: Playback Controls

The realme Buds Air 7 Pro features customizable touch controls that can be adjusted through the realme Link app. This app provides four options: double tap, triple tap, touch and hold, and slide up or down, with the exception that the sliding gesture cannot be customized. The functionality can be a bit temperamental, requiring several attempts to respond correctly. However, aside from this, the touch controls are straightforward to configure and operate.

realme Buds Air 7 Pro: Noise Cancellation and Ambient Mode

Active Noise Cancellation plays a crucial role in modern TWS Buds. They offer an impressive 53dB ANC, which appears substantial on paper and, fortunately, performs effectively in practice as well. Upon activating the ANC mode, I experienced a noticeable vacuum effect when inserting them into my ears.

It effectively eliminates all sound frequencies, including higher pitches that typically manage to seep through. Background noises such as fans, air conditioning, conversations, and even the whistling of a cooker were all managed quite effectively. While listening to music, I could still detect some faint ambient sounds.

The wind reduction feature is designed to minimize wind noise, and while it performs better than other true wireless stereo (TWS) earbuds, some sound still manages to get through. The main issue with the active noise cancellation (ANC) is its uneven distribution. The right earbud effectively cancels more noise than the left, which can feel odd at times. The transparency mode is satisfactory.

realme Buds Air 7 Pro: Microphones and Calling

Regarding call quality, each earbud is equipped with three microphones. These microphones effectively capture the speaker’s voice, providing clear call quality in a majority of situations.

realme Buds Air 7 Pro: Battery and Charging

The company asserts that the realme Buds Air 7 Pro can provide up to 48 hours of battery life with the case when Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) is disabled. I tested the earbuds with ANC off for 2.5 hours continuously, and the battery level dropped from 100% to 50%.

Nevertheless, thanks to the case’s ability to recharge them multiple times, the earbuds comfortably lasted a week, indicating an actual battery life of approximately 30 hours, which is quite impressive. When ANC was activated, the battery life reduced to 28 hours.

Regarding individual usage, the earbuds can operate for 5.2 hours on a single charge with ANC off. In terms of charging, both the case and the earbuds require about 2 hours to reach a full charge. However, once fully charged, they can last a week, making it a worthwhile investment.

These earbuds feature an appealing design, an all-aluminum casing, 53dB active noise cancellation, and impressive sound quality, all for a price of Rs. 5499. While the battery life falls short of expectations and the touch controls can be somewhat unreliable at times, these TWS earbuds are still likely to perform well in a fiercely competitive market.
