Samsung made an impact in the industry with the launch of the foldable display. Now, Samsung Display and Intel are developing a slideable PC. In the Intel Innovation keynote, Samsung Display CEO JS Choi made an appearance on stage to unveil the prototype PC that can transition from a 13-inch tablet to a 17-inch display for PCs.

Choi said that the brand is announcing the world’s first 17-inch slidable display PC. He further mentioned that the machine would have a larger display and easy portability. He concluded his statement by saying that Samsung Display has decided to bring the sliding screen technology for its flexible PC displays. Basically, Choi mentioned that the trend of foldable is gone for now in the case of PCs for now.

Samsung and Intel’s collaboration

Talking about Intel, the company has been conducting experimenting with multiple unconventional PC form factors for the last few years. The company was prepping up for a dual screen, and foldable future before Microsoft left its plans for Windows 10X on the foldable. One thing to mention here is that computers with new forms and factors need new software and applications that are completely optimized for these devices. Currently, there is no clarity on the point as to how Intel will commercialize slideable PCs with proper software support.

Samsung Display’s prototype machine slides from a 13-inch tablet to a 17-inch monitor. The sliding mechanism is something that will be completely new to see in computers. Furthermore, Intel also demonstrated its new Unison software for the display. The Unison software by Intel will work in order to connect Intel-powered computers to smartphones, as well as iPhones.

Apart from that, many smartphone-producing brands are also working on slideable displays like Oppo, Vivo, and others. It will be interesting to see how these companies work on software that will perfectly synchronize with the sliding tech. For example, we have already seen the Android 12L version for Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4. Speculations are that the Unison software will also work in a similar way.
