The Galaxy Buds FE, released last October, are part of Samsung’s affordable Fan Edition lineup, alongside the Galaxy Buds 3 and Galaxy Buds 3 Pro. These are the most basic option in the series, starting at ₹7,999, or $99 in the US. However, after a recent incident where a Samsung earbud exploded and caused hearing loss, it’s important to be careful.

Earbuds explode in ear

A 24-year-old student from Adana, Turkey, has shared a shocking experience involving Samsung earbuds, which exploded and caused permanent hearing loss for his girlfriend. He shared this on the Turkey Samsung Community.

The student, Bayazit, who owns a Samsung S24 Ultra, bought Samsung earbuds to go with his phone. After unboxing, he didn’t charge them as they came with about 36% battery.

However, when his girlfriend borrowed them, one of the earbuds exploded in her ear, leaving her with permanent hearing damage. The student now has a doctor’s report confirming this injury was caused by the earbud explosion.

Samsung’s response

Naturally, he reached out to Samsung, where he was told to take the earbuds to the Adana Cemalpaşa service center. Initially, the staff were surprised and apologetic. But just two days later, Samsung called back, claiming in a report that the earbud didn’t explode but was only damaged.

They offered a replacement pair as a “gesture of goodwill,” but dismissed the injury claim and suggested the student take legal action if unhappy with their offer. This was shocking to Bayazit.

For months, the student has been trying to resolve the issue with Samsung. He has provided everything, including the invoice, photos, and the doctor’s report linking the hearing loss to the earbud explosion. Despite this, Samsung has refused to take full responsibility.

This incident is a reminder of the importance of product safety, especially for items like earbuds that are used so closely to the body. The student is hoping that with enough support, Samsung will take the situation seriously and provide the help his girlfriend needs.

Stay cautious with wearable electronics

While this may have been a manufacturing defect, it’s a reminder that things can go wrong, even with trusted brands. If you own Galaxy Buds FE, it’s a good idea to use them with care and pay attention to any potential issues. If you feel that the earbuds are getting warmer than usual, immediately take them off.
