With not even a month left for the Galaxy Fold to hit retail shelves on April 26, Samsung has shared a video showcasing the Galaxy Fold’s folding test, which was the main highlight of the Samsung Unpacked 2019 event.

Samsung’s Galaxy Fold would be a real differentiation from the current smartphone trends. The premium experience and innovation would be reflected in its price tag. For the same reason and to shush the skeptics, Samsung has come out with this video.

Samsung Galaxy Fold: Durability Test

Before you pay the premium price, you would want to know if Samsungs Fold could withstand the myriad of folding and unfolding, right? The following video from Samsung should give you an idea.

So, this is how the Galaxy Fold’s folding mechanism works:

  • First of all, Galaxy Fold is an inward folding phone. So, a 0 – 180º fully inward (or outward to unfold, duh!) foldable AMOLED display.
  • Next up, the whole folding mechanism depends on a lightweight and durable hinge aka the joint.
  • Then, the internals needed to be built in a way that they would survive thousands of fold/unfold cycles.
  • Finally, the software has to be tailor-made to experience foldable handsets efficiently.

Once that’s out of the way, the devices they have made must be tested, especially since Samsung can’t afford any more design debacles post the Note 7 fiasco (Nope, we haven’t forgotten). In the video, we see a glimpse of Samsung’s large-scale lab and industrial-grade robots involved in the tests. The company tests its Galaxy Fold smartphones for 200,000 folds and unfolds.

But wait, not all the devices would undergo these tests. As you may know, all the companies follow batch testing. So, let’s keep our fingers crossed that the device we buy turn out to be what we paid for. Anyhow, here’s a list of the 10 best foldable phones to look out this year.
