Sony’s Most Powerful Console Just Cleared its Biggest hurdle in India

If you wanted a PS5 Pro in India over the last year, you had two choices: pay a massive markup to a grey-market importer in Karol Bagh or wait for the Indian government to figure out what to do with the 6GHz spectrum. Most enthusiasts chose the former. But according to a new listing on the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) database, the wait for an official, warranty-backed unit is almost over.

The listing, first spotted by analyst Arjun Campbell, identifies a new Sony console with the model number CFI-7121. For those keeping track, this isn’t just the standard Pro model; it’s a newer 2026 revision that reportedly runs cooler and quieter than the initial global launch units.

Why hasn’t Sony launched the PS5 Pro in India yet?

For eighteen months, Sony India had to give the same frustrating “no comment” regarding a local launch. The culprit? Wi-Fi 7. The PS5 Pro was built to utilize the 6GHz wireless band to provide the low-latency networking required for high-end cloud gaming and remote play. Until January 2026, the Indian Department of Telecommunications (DoT) had restricted this band, reserving it for satellite and telecom use. Sony, unwilling to ship a crippled version of its premium console with the Wi-Fi 7 chip disabled, simply chose to skip the market entirely.

With the recent de-licensing of the lower 6GHz band, the regulatory floodgates have opened. The BIS certification is the final green light Sony needed to legally stock the shelves at Shop at SC, Amazon, Croma, and Reliance Digital.

What the CFI-7121 model brings to the table

If you waited for the official launch, you might actually be getting a better product. The CFI-7121 is the “V2” of the Pro lineup. Early teardowns of this revision suggest:

  • Better Efficiency: A 2–3% improvement in power draw thanks to a refined internal layout.
  • Lower Noise: New fan profiles make this unit roughly 20% quieter than the 2024 launch model.
  • PSSR 2.0: This model is expected to ship with the latest firmware for PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, Sony’s AI-upscaling answer to NVIDIA’s DLSS.

What’s the expected price for PlayStation 5 Pro in India?

While the standard PS5 Slim has become a staple in Indian living rooms, often discounted to around ₹45,000 during “Days of Play” sales, the Pro is a different beast. Expect the official PS5 Pro India price to land north of ₹75,000, especially with the mandatory 2TB SSD and the inclusion of the vertical stand (which Sony now sells separately).

In a market like India, where the value-for-money ratio is king, the Pro is a tough sell. Global data shows the Pro accounts for only about 13% of total PS5 sales. Most Indian gamers are perfectly happy with the base console, especially with Grand Theft Auto VI looming on the horizon. For the casual fan, that ₹30,000 difference buys a lot of V-Bucks or a very nice 4K TV upgrade.

The Grey Market vs. Official Warranty

Until now, the “imported” PS5 Pro was the only game in town, often retailing for ₹85,000 with zero warranty support. An official launch changes the math:

  1. Peace of Mind: One year of Sony India warranty is vital for a machine with a non-replaceable liquid metal cooling system.
  2. Price Stability: No more “demand-based” markups from local shops.
  3. EMI Options: This is how India buys consoles. Expect aggressive No-Cost EMI offers from major banks that will make that ₹75,000 pill easier to swallow.

Why the PlayStation 5 Pro is not about market share?

Sony isn’t launching the Pro in India right now to win a volume war; they’re doing it to reclaim the “halo” effect. With the PlayStation 6 rumored for a 2027/28 window, the PS5 Pro is the bridge for the enthusiast who wants the absolute best version of GTA VI when it finally drops.
