After months of rumors and anticipation, the Indian automaker Tata Motors has finally unveiled the Tata Sierra in India. The mid-sized SUV is here to rival the Hyundai Creta and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, among other popular models. The car offers a unique design, three engine options (including a brand-new petrol engine), and is available in multiple colors. It will hit the subcontinent’s roads on January 15, 2026.

Tata Sierra Variant-Wise Pricing
For now, Tata Motors has announced only the introductory price of the base Smart+ petrol manual variant, at Rs. 11.50 lakhs (ex-showroom). Pricing for the other models, including Pure, Adventure, and Accomplished, will be revealed in December 2025.

Tata Sierra Powertrain Options
The all-new Tata Sierra comes with three engine options: two petrol and one diesel.
- A 1.5-liter Revotron (four-cylinder) NA petrol engine that produces 106 hp and 145 Nm. It will be mated with a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
- A 1.5-liter Hyperion (four-cylinder) turbo-petrol engine (TGDI) that produces 160 hp and 255 Nm. This particular engine will be paired only with a six-speed automatic transmission.
- A 1.5-liter Kyrojet turbo-diesel engine that produces 118 hp. Like the NA petrol, this one will also be mated to a six-speed manual (260 Nm) or a six-speed automatic transmission (280 Nm).
To check the availability of the engine and transmission options across the variants, refer to the table below. For now, the Sierra is only available in front-wheel-drive configuration.

While the most affordable petrol manual version is Smart+, buyers who want to get an automatic transmission with the NA petrol engine have the Pure trim as the entry-level model. The 1.5 turbo-petrol TGDi engine is only available on the top three trims: Adventure+, Accomplish, and Accomplish+. Meanwhile, the diesel engine is available with a six-speed manual transmission from the Smart+ and a six-speed automatic transmission from the Pure variant.
Under the hood, the Sierra is based on the All-Terrain Ready, Omni-Energy, Geometrically Scalable ARGOS architecture. It is among the company’s most versatile platforms, as it supports multiple body styles and powertrains. For the record, the ARGOS platform is compatible with CNG and hybrid powertrains, as well as front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive drivetrains.

The exteriors of the Tata Sierra are bold, boxy, and aggressive. On the front, you get a connected DRL right from the base model, under which is the blacked-out front grill that houses the company’s logo in the center, the bi-projector LED setup on the side, and silver cladding at the bottom.
The car’s side profile is dominated by the new 17- to 19-inch alloy wheels, flush door handles, and a straight roofline (indicative of superior headroom on the inside). You also see the alpine-window design (along with the C-pillar) borrowed from the original Sierra, which came with a single-piece rear glass.
On the back, the mid-sized SUV features a powered tailgate (likely on the top trims), an integrated spoiler, a connected taillamp, and a chunky grill and cladding at the bottom. It is worth noting that the vehicle’s cladding has a glossy finish, which is more prone to scratches.
Last but not least, certain models of the Sierra will also feature a panoramic sunroof, and one of the biggest sunroofs in the segment, no less.

Tata Sierra Safety Features
With regards to safety, the Sierra comes with multiple features, including six airbags standard across all trims, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, hill assist, ISOFIX child seat mounts, and reverse parking sensors. Higher trims of the Tata Sierra also come with a tyre pressure monitoring system and front parking sensors.
The automaker has also equipped the car with Level 2 ADAS, which uses front and rear radars and 360-degree cameras to provide features such as adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, and lane keep assist.
Although the crash test rating for the Tata Sierra hasn’t been released yet, the car should score a perfect safety rating, given the automaker’s history.

Tata Sierra Booking & Delivery Timeline
Bookings for the Tata Sierra open on December 16, 2025, and deliveries begin on January 15, 2026. We’re a bit skeptical about why Tata has scheduled the deliveries for January 15 (probably to gauge market response when the booking window opens), but that is the official timeline at the moment.
