vivo T4 Pro vs. Nothing Phone 3a Pro: Table of Contents

Extending its mid-range camera-centric lineup, the Chinese manufacturer vivo has launched the vivo T4 Pro in India. The handsets offer a bright AMOLED screen, a capable Snapdragon chipset, and a 3x optical zoom lens that sets it apart from several competitors in the segment.

However, there’s a handset that also features a triple-rear camera setup with a dedicated optical zoom lens available for a similar price: the Nothing Phone 3a Pro. So, if you’re in the market for a smartphone with a budget of around Rs. 30,000, which one should you choose? Let’s find out.

vivo T4 Pro vs. Nothing Phone 3a Pro: Design

Dimensions & Weight

vivo T4 Pro
  • vivo T4 Pro: 163.5 x 77 x 7.5 mm; 192 grams
  • Nothing Phone 3a Pro: 163.5 x 77.5 x 8.4 mm; 211 grams

The vivo T4 Pro is the lighter and slimmer of the two phones. The difference is not negligible, but rather quite significant.

Material

On the front, the vivo T4 Pro features Diamond Shield Glass, while the frame and back panel are made of plastic. The Phone 3a Pro, on the other hand, uses aluminum accents in the otherwise plastic frame, along with high-quality tempered glass on the front and the back.

Design

When it comes to design, the phones are poles apart; let me explain. The vivo T4 Pro looks more like a mainstream smartphone with a punch-hole screen in the front, a vertical camera module, and a minimal back panel.

Nothing Phone 3a Pro

The Phone 3a Pro, on the other hand, follows the classic transparent design language Nothing is known for. In addition, it also features a gigantic, circular camera module on the back, with the Glyph Interface LEDs surrounding it.

Colors

  • vivo T4 Pro: Nitro Blue, Blaze Gold
  • Nothing Phone 3a Pro: Black, Gray

IP Rating

Between the two phones, the vivo T4 Pro features a better IP68/69 dust and water resistance rating. The company claims that the phone can last in up to 1.5 meters of freshwater for up to 120 minutes. Further, you get features like wet-hand touch and greasy-hand touch. Lastly, the phone also complies with the MIL-STD-810H military standards.

In comparison, the Phone 3a Pro comes with an inferior IP64 rating, implying that the phone can survive accidental splashes, water, or light rain.

vivo T4 Pro vs. Nothing Phone 3a Pro: Display

vivo T4 Pro display

The vivo T4 Pro sports a 6.77-inch AMOLED screen with a resolution of 2392 x 1080 pixels (387 ppi), a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz, and a peak brightness of 5,000 nits (limited to 1,500 nits in the high-brightness mode).

The Phone 3a Pro has a similar 6.77-inch AMOLED screen with a 2392 x 1080 pixels resolution (387 ppi), a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz, and a peak brightness of 3,000 nits (limited to 1,300 nits of global peak brightness outdoors). Additionally, the screen supports a 1,000Hz touch sampling rate and a 2,160Hz PWM dimming rate.

From the specifications, it looks like the vivo T4 Pro has a brighter screen, but the Phone 3a Pro, with its higher touch sampling rate and PWM dimming, should offer a better visual experience (which includes being easier on the eyes).

vivo T4 Pro vs. Nothing Phone 3a Pro: Processor

Under the hood, vivo’s latest mid-ranger runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 (4nm) chipset. It features a 2.8GHz Cortex-A720 prime core, four 2.4GHz performance cores, and three 1.8GHz efficient cores. The chipset offers the Adreno 722 GPU (claims to provide 30% better graphical rendering), and an NPU that boasts a 65% performance jump.

The capable chipset is paired with up to 12GB of LPDDR4X RAM (with support for virtual RAM extension) and up to 256GB of UFS 2.2 storage. Together, the hardware on the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 manages to score around 1.08 million points on the AnTuTu 10 and 1,204/3,590 points on the GeekBench 6 CPU test.

Snapdragon 7s gen 3 on the Phone 3a Pro

In comparison, the Nothing Phone 3a Pro features the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 (4nm) processor, which has a 2.5GHz Cortex-A720 prime core, three 2.4GHz Cortex-A720 performance cores, and four 1.8GHz Cortex-A520 efficient cores. Besides, there’s the Adreno 810 GPU and an NPU that offers 30% better AI performance than its predecessor.

Like the vivo T4 Pro, the Phone 3a Pro features up to 12GB of LPDDR4X RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 2.2 storage. During our time with the device, we achieved an AnTuTu 10 score of over 800,000 points and a 1,160/3,250 points in the Geekbench 6 CPU test.

As the benchmark scores suggest, the new Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 (4nm) on the vivo T4 Pro is slightly more powerful than the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 (4nm) on the Phone 3a Pro. However, for most users, the difference should be negligible, especially during the daily digital chores of browsing the internet, checking emails, browsing on social media, and clicking some pictures.

vivo T4 Pro vs. Nothing Phone 3a Pro: Software

The T4 Pro runs on Functouch OS 15, which is based on Android 15. Further, Vivo has also promised to provide four years of operating system updates and six years of security updates. Talking about the user interface’s key features, they include new always-on display sizes, personalized video wallpapers, a three-finger swipe for entering the split screen mode, improved screenshot editing, and quicker app launches.

The Phone 3a Pro runs on Nothing OS 3.2 (based on Android 15), with a promise to receive three years of Android updates and six years of security updates. Some of the key features include the dot-matrix font, custom widgets, Essential Key + Space (an AI-powered hub for notes or other ideas that you might want to check back later), and a couple of fixes, including those for the rare video playback failures and the abnormal behavior of Glyph Lights in specific scenarios.

vivo T4 Pro Price

Vivo T4 Pro in two colors

On paper, the vivo T4 Pro offers a brighter screen, a more powerful processor, four years of operating system updates, and a higher-density silicon-carbon battery that should last longer (over a day of moderate use) between charges. Furthermore, the 3x optical zoom lens enables you to capture beautiful portraits with a pleasing background blur.

Besides these reasons, the vivo T4 Pro is also the more economical choice between the two phones. Its top trim, with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, costs Rs. 31,999 (lesser with bank offers).

Nothing Phone 3a Pro Price

Nothing Phone 3a Pro

The Nothing Phone 3a Pro offers a clean user interface based on Android 15, features a useful ultrawide camera on the back panel (instead of the depth sensor on the vivo T4 Pro), and, most importantly, features a unique design (with the Glyph Interface) that sets the phone apart from all its competitors. However, the company sure charges a slightly premium for the aesthetic exteriors.
