Earlier this year, WhatsApp rolled out the Chat Lock feature that helps users protect their sensitive conversations by locking them in a secure folder in the app. Now, the Meta-owned messaging app is launching Secret Code, an additional security feature to help users keep selected chats from unauthorized access by hiding them behind a different code or password. Here’s everything you need to know about the new WhatsApp Secret Code.

Secret Lock Is An Extension Of Chat Lock

On November 30, 2023, Mark Zuckerberg announced the Secret Code feature. As an extension of the Chat Lock feature, the Secret Code lets users “set a unique password,” different from what they use to unlock their phone, to give their locked chats “an extra layer of privacy.” However, unlike Locked Chats, chats hidden using Secret Code aren’t visible in the inbox section.

Here’s How To Use The Secret Code Feature

Per the official blog, users must enter the secret code in the search bar at the top of the inbox section to discover the hidden chats. If the feature doesn’t suit users’ needs, they can disable it and make the locked chats appear in their inbox. To access the feature on Android phones, users must open the locked chats feature, tap the three-dot menu at the top, select “Chat lock settings,” and toggle “Hide locked chats.” Following this, users should enter a password for locking the chats.

Secret Code To Roll Out To Everyone Soon

The blog post also mentions that users won’t have to open individual chat settings to lock a chat. Instead, they would need to press and hold on to a chat and select “Lock Chat.” The feature is rolling out to users and should be available to everyone in the next few days.
