Could Nothing Take On Ray-Ban Meta? Two Smart Glasses Reportedly In The Works

TL; DR
  • Tipster Roland Quandt says Nothing is developing two smart glasses models.
  • The camera model reportedly adds ChatGPT and translation; both get photochromic lenses.
  • Price, design, battery, and launch timing remain unknown, with 2027 floated earlier.

Nothing already sells phones, earbuds, and headphones, and they’re doing quite well in India. However, the smartphone market, as we all know, isn’t in its best shape. The latest Counterpoint Research report claims global smartphone shipments fell 20% YoY in Q3 2026, one of the sharpest declines in recent years.

At the same time, the global smart glasses and eyewear market is surging. I’m talking about higher double-digit growth, and even triple digits in some niche segments (display-less smart glasses with a focus on audio and cameras). So, if you’re a relatively small smartphone manufacturer with a distinct visual identity and a lot going for you, especially in the mid-range segment, what would you do?

What are the two Nothing glasses supposed to do?

Nothing, one of the country’s most popular smartphone brands (with an established global footprint), is reportedly entering the smart glasses market with not one but two models. Roland Quandt of WinFuture shared the claim on Bluesky.

According to him, the first pair works like headphones built into a frame. It handles music, audiobooks, and calls. Further, it also acts as a shortcut to the voice assistant on your paired phone. The second pair does all that and adds a camera, ChatGPT integration, and language-to-language translation. In my opinion, this one is similar to the Ray-Ban Meta Glasses.

Both pairs are said to have photochromic lenses that darken outdoors and fade back to clear once you step inside. It’s worth noting that the smart glasses are rumored to feature photochromic lenses and not Transitions, which are the more expensive ones out there.

When Will They Launch, And What Will They Cost?

Quandt posted no images, design, price, or battery life details. Earlier reports floated 2027, but that seems more like a conjecture than a solid timeline. For context, Nothing plans to launch roughly six smartphones in 2027. He also said the company has set up separate business units for audio and AI-native products.

My bet is that the audio-only pair arrives first and could be priced quite aggressively. It sits neatly beside Nothing’s headphones, skips the privacy debate that camera glasses invite, and is likely cheaper to build. The camera model could cost more. However, both the glasses should share one thing: Nothing’s iconic see-through design.
