After a year of releasing the Hero 11, the action camera manufacturer GoPro has launched the Hero 12 Black in India. The new model adds several new features and improvements, such as increased battery life with the Enduro battery, HDR support for videos in 4K and 5,3K resolution, new HyperSmooth 6.0 technology for even smoother videos, and so on. Here’s everything you need to know about the GoPro Hero 12 Black.

GoPro Hero 12 Brings 8:7 Aspect Ratio To More Resolutions

In terms of design, the GoPro Hero 12 looks and feels similar to its predecessor, except for the “12 Black” branding on the side panel toward the left of the main screen. The new action camera’s dimensions (71.8 x 50.8 x 33.6 mm) and weight (154G with battery) are also similar to the previous generation’s. However, there still are a lot of noteworthy upgrades to talk about.

The GoPro Hero 12 Black features a familiar 1/1.9-inch CMOS GP2 sensor with 5.3K max video resolution and 27.13MP max photo resolution. However, the 8:7 wide aspect ratio (with a 156-degree field of view) is now available for all video resolutions and modes, including Night Effects, Night Lapse, Time Lapse, and TimeWarp. In addition, the Hero 12 Black brings HDR support to videos shot in 4K and 5.3K resolution, which helps retain more details in the brighter and darker parts of the video.

HyperSmooth 6.0 Stabilization And Better Battery Life

GoPro Hero 12 Black also features the latest stabilization tech, HyperSmooth 6.0, featuring next-generation AutoBoost for enhanced video stabilization with tight cropping margins. In addition, users get horizon-leveling in full 360-degree rotation. Another significant addition to the action camera is support for wireless audio via Bluetooth accessories (up to four), like earphones, headphones, and microphones, for recording audio and giving voice commands.

Users also get better compatibility with standard camera mounts and accessories as the GoPro Hero 12 Black includes 1/4-20 mounting threads. In comparison with the GoPro Hero 11, the GoPro Hero 12 now provides up to two times, i.e., 70 minutes of recording time (5.3K at 60 fps), with the Enduro battery provided in the box. The website also mentions that the action camera can last up to 1.5 hours, recording 5.3K videos at 30 fps, and over 2.5 hours in 1080p at 30 fps.

Users still get a 33ft or 10m waterproof rating without protective housing, which increases to 60m with protective housing. Along with the device, the company has also launched a new Max Lens Mod 2.0 that provides a 177-degree field of view in 4K at 60 fps. Last but not least, the device has a 2.27-inch main touch display and a 1.4-inch non-touch screen at the front.
