TL; DR
  • Ice Universe claims Samsung has significantly improved crease control on both Galaxy Z Fold8 models, bringing them in line with the OPPO Find N6 and its near-creaseless foldable display.
  • The leaker also says Samsung has finalized a naming change: the previously rumored “Fold8 Wide” will launch as the Galaxy Z Fold8, while the direct successor to the Galaxy Z Fold7 will be called the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra.
  • This naming information was previously reported by SamMobile and is now being corroborated by Ice Universe.

Samsung’s 2026 foldable lineup may look different from what earlier leaks suggested. According to Ice Universe, Samsung has recently finalized a naming change for the Galaxy Z Fold8 series. The wider foldable that was previously referred to as the “Galaxy Z Fold8 Wide” will now launch simply as the Galaxy Z Fold8, while the traditional book-style successor to the current Galaxy Z Fold7 will reportedly launch as the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra.

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about the change. SamMobile previously reported Samsung’s revised naming strategy, and Ice Universe is now backing up that information with his latest leak. If accurate, Samsung’s 2026 foldable lineup will consist of the Galaxy Z Fold8, Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, and Galaxy Z Flip8.

Samsung Reportedly Improves Crease Control

Ice Universe also shared new information about Samsung’s foldable displays. According to the leaker, both Galaxy Z Fold8 models now offer crease performance comparable to the OPPO Find N6 (review), which currently has one of the least visible creases among foldable phones.

The OPPO Find N6 achieves this through a redesigned hinge system that reportedly scans hinge components at 0.3-micron precision before applying 3D-printed polymer compensation layers to account for microscopic variations.

OPPO says this process creates a more uniform folding surface and helped the device earn TÜV Rheinland’s “imperceptible crease” certification. Ice Universe claims Samsung’s upcoming foldables have now reached a similar level of crease control.

Galaxy Z Fold8 Expected Specifications

Galaxy Z Fold8 Wide

The standard Galaxy Z Fold8 is expected to be Samsung’s wider foldable model. Current leaks point to a 5.4-inch cover display and a 7.6-inch inner display with a near-square aspect ratio. The device is expected to use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset alongside a 5,000 mAh battery.

Charging support is rumored to include 45W wired charging and 25W wireless charging. The phone could measure around 4.3mm when unfolded and 9.8mm when folded. Camera hardware is currently tipped to include a 200MP primary sensor alongside a 12MP ultra-wide camera and a 50MP secondary ultra-wide unit.

Samsung is reportedly developing this wider foldable to better compete with the growing number of wide-format foldables from Chinese brands, as well as Apple’s first foldable iPhone, which is also rumored to adopt a wider design.

The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is expected to serve as the spiritual successor to the Galaxy Z Fold7. Leaks currently point to a 200MP main camera, a 50MP ultra-wide camera, and a 10MP telephoto camera with 3X optical zoom.

The device is also expected to feature a 5,000 mAh battery with 45W charging support. Thickness is currently rumored to be around 4.5mm when unfolded and 9mm when folded. Unlike the wider Fold8, the Ultra is expected to retain Samsung’s more traditional Fold aspect ratio.

Z Fold8

Since the Fold8 Ultra is rumored to be slightly thicker than the Fold7, Samsung may have enough internal space to bring back stylus functionality.
