Reliance Jio has introduced a new GigaFiber broadband plan at a lower security payment. Earlier, the security deposit for the ONT device (GigaHub Home Gateway) was Rs 4500. Now, the new plan’s deposit amount is Rs. 2500 (drops by Rs. 2000). This would be refunded if and when you choose to cancel the services. You will have to return the installed device in good and working condition.

Back in April, Jio had announced the pricing details of GigaFiber and TV combo. The comprehensive package included broadband, IPTV, landline, video conferencing, VR gaming, and smart home connectivity, all at Rs. 600.

Jio GigaFiber: What’s changed with the new plan?

With the new plan, the optical network terminal (ONT) device is of inferior quality with a single band router. Preshit Deorukhkar, an existing user has reported via Twitter that the speed is also throttled up to 50Mbps.

In comparison, the previous ONT device called the GigaFiber Home Gateway comes with dual-band connectivity up to 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies. It is a 1Gbps plan and the speed offered peaked up to 100Mbps.

That said, you get free voice services bundled with the new package. You also get free 1,100GB monthly data access. Another early subscriber shared on DreamDTH forums that the new plan features the Jio TV app access as well.

At the moment, the new service has a limited rollout in selected cities like Chennai and Mumbai.

Jio GigaFiber: Old or New plan?

While many early adopters are yet to receive the voice services, some prevailing customers were offered a landline connection. So, all of these lead to the predicament for prospective customers. Reliance is yet to reveal whether the new plan coexists with or supersedes the old plan. And until an official statement, we advise you to take the new plan details with a pinch of salt.
