OpenAI has started rolling out free access to ChatGPT Go for users in India, and yes, it’s completely free for 12 months. The plan, which usually costs ₹399 per month, is now available at no cost to all users across the country. If you’re in India, you can now upgrade to Go and use GPT-5 along with extra features like file uploads, personalized memory, and higher usage limits, all for free.

This offer is part of OpenAI’s push to make advanced AI tools more accessible in one of its fastest-growing markets. India has seen a huge surge in ChatGPT usage, and this free Go plan is meant to make AI adoption even easier, especially with competitors like Google Gemini and Perplexity Pro entering the space.

Here’s everything you need to know about how to claim your free 12-month ChatGPT Go access.

How to Claim One Year of ChatGPT Go for Free in India

1. Through the Website

Go to chat.openai.com, log in or create an account, and head to the pricing or upgrade section. You’ll see an option that says “Try Go for free for 12 months.” Click on it to activate the offer instantly.

2. Through the ChatGPT App

If you’re using the ChatGPT mobile app, open it and go to Settings > Subscription or Upgrade. You should see a banner or button for the free Go plan. Tap on it, and your account will automatically be upgraded.

If you are getting a “processing error,” that just means several people are trying to claim ChatGPT Go free at the same time. You can simply wait and try again later.

4. What Happens After 12 Months

After your free year ends, billing will automatically switch to ₹399 per month unless you cancel before that. You can manage or cancel the plan anytime from Settings > Account > Manage Subscription.

What’s Included in ChatGPT Go

The Go plan sits between the free and Plus tiers. It gives you access to GPT-5, higher message limits, file uploads, image generation, and memory features that help ChatGPT remember context over time. It’s perfect for anyone who needs more flexibility than the free plan but doesn’t want to pay for Plus yet.
