Qualcomm has launched its latest mid-tier mobile platform, the Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 in global markets including India. The new chip brings upgrades the board including faster speeds, better battery life, and advanced AI features for affordable smartphones.

Power Boost Across the Board

The Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 is designed to deliver a smoother and more powerful user experience. Qualcomm highlights that the chip offers an 11% boost in CPU performance (thanks to the new Kryo CPU) and a substantial 29% improvement in GPU performance (with the Adreno GPU). These upgrades mean snappier performance in everyday tasks, from browsing and social media to more demanding applications like gaming.

Beyond speed, Qualcomm also claims a 12% improvement in power efficiency, meaning longer battery life for streaming, gaming, or everyday use. The core setup of the Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 is as follows: 1 Prime core (ARM Cortex A720s) clocked at 2.3 GHz, 3 Performance cores (ARM Cortex A720s) cloced at 2.2 GHz & 4 Efficiency cores (ARM Cortex A520s) clocked at 1.8 GHz.

The chip also promises benefits for specific user groups. Gamers can expect support for 4K visuals and wireless lossless audio (through Snapdragon Sound™). The platform also supports ultra-fast 5G and Wi-Fi 6E, ensuring quick downloads and stable connections.

AI Comes to Mid-Tier Phones

A key feature of the new Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 is its “first-in-series Gen AI support.” Gen AI capabilities will enable smarter photo editing, voice assistants, and background noise cancellation during calls. While Qualcomm hasn’t detailed specific AI apps, the feature signals a push to democratize AI tools beyond flagship devices. The platform also has support for on-device AI and will be compatible with leading LLM models including Meta Llama 3.2, and Indus by Tech Mahindra.

This platform brings a new level of performance and efficiency for users to enjoy AI, gaming, and photography anywhere,” said Deepu John, Qualcomm’s senior product director.

Major smartphone manufacturers, including realme, OPPO, and Honor, are expected to release devices powered by the Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 in the coming months.
