The MG Majestor is finally here. The Majestor comes as a full-size D+ segment SUV from MG, which will compete with the unshakable Toyota Fortuner in this segment. The MG Majestor has a lot going for it. It comes with fancy features like a triple locking differential, massaging seats, and whatnot. However, the Toyota Fortuner is the segment-defining body-on-frame SUV that has held sway over Indian buyers for nearly a decade.

While both cars are broadly similar in terms of their ladder-frame architecture and positioning as premium full-size SUVs, in terms of cosmetics, comfort, and character, both are extremely different from each other. Very clearly, the Toyota Fortuner is the one oriented towards rugged dependability and driver confidence, while the MG Majestor is positioned as the more feature-rich and comfort-oriented option. Let’s take a look at a detailed comparison between the Toyota Fortuner and the MG Majestor.

The outer design is probably the most differentiating factor between the two cars. The Fortuner and Majestor both look completely different and have their own game when it comes to style. The Majestor looks like a bold, modern three-row SUV with its upright stance, sleek connected LED DRLs, a prominent chrome-accented grille, and a silhouette that is more luxurious than off-road ready.

The Toyota Fortuner, on the other hand, looks like the workhorse it has always been. It has a presence that is still unmatched in the eyes of the Indian car buyer. With the massive ground clearance and wide stance, the Fortuner has a commanding presence that signifies more capability and less comfort. At the rear we get the signature Fortuner LED cluster that is instantly recognisable on Indian roads, as compared to the more contemporary, flush tail-light treatment on the Majestor.
MG Majestor vs Toyota Fortuner: ENGINE AND PERFORMANCE
The Toyota Fortuner continues with its proven 2.8L four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine that produces 204hp of power and 500 Nm of torque (with the automatic), paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. Four-wheel drive with a low-range transfer case remains available, underlining the Fortuner’s off-road credentials. With the Toyota Fortuner we also get a mild hybrid option with a small 48V battery to enhance efficiency.
The MG Majestor, meanwhile, comes with a 2.0L four-cylinder twin-turbocharged diesel engine paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. Despite a smaller engine and no hybrid tech, the MG Majestor produces similar power and torque figures. It generates 215 bhp of power and up to 480Nm of torque, which is right up there with the Toyota Fortuner. In terms of off-road capability, the MG Majestor comes with a triple locking differential, more than 10 off-road and drive modes combinations, along with other things.

MG Majestor vs Toyota Fortuner: FEATURES AND COMFORT
The features and comfort is where the MG Majestor comes out to be the easy winner. The MG Majestor has been equipped with an impressive list of features including a large panoramic sunroof, a massive infotainment display, ADAS safety suite, massaging and ventilated front seats, a 360-degree camera, and a premium sound system. The cabin feels plush and modern, with soft-touch materials and ambient lighting that give it a more upscale atmosphere.

The Toyota Fortuner also gets all the features one would need, but as compared to what the MG Majestor is offering, it may sound dated. The Fortuner’s interior has been progressively updated over its lifetime, and now comes with an 8-inch infotainment display, seat ventilation, powered driver’s seat, and more – all of which are available with the MG Majestor.

Both the Toyota Fortuner and MG Majestor come with a solid safety package. The Majestor has an edge here with its ADAS suite that includes lane keep assist, autonomous emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control, features that are becoming increasingly expected in this price bracket. The Fortuner covers the essentials well with multiple airbags, vehicle stability control, hill-start assist, and downhill brake control, but again all that, the MG Majestor can also do.

MG Majestor vs Toyota Fortuner: PRICING AND VARIANTS
When it comes to pricing, the Toyota Fortuner holds a clear advantage for now since we know exactly what it costs. The Fortuner’s ex-showroom prices start from ₹34.16 lakh for the base 2WD petrol variant and tops out at ₹49.59 lakh for the range-topping GR-S 4WD diesel automatic. The MG Majestor, on the other hand, is yet to have its prices officially announced. However, it is widely expected to launch somewhere in the ₹50 lakh bracket, which would place it meaningfully above the Fortuner’s starting price.
Initially, MG had positioned the Majestor above their current D-segment SUV, the MG Gloster. However, given that the MG Gloster also starts at an ex-showroom price of ₹38 lakh, it would have meant that the Majestor would’ve been priced higher, which, in all honesty, would have killed the Majestor’s chance of cracking the market since everyone under or around the ₹50 lakh budget does, at some point, look at the Toyota Fortuner. Given that, MG has now smartly positioned the MG Majestor as a replacement for the Gloster, meaning that it could very well start at a price of under ₹40 lakh.
