Microsoft Launches Surface and Surface Pro Laptops with Snapdragon X Plus and X Elite Chips

It’s finally time! Snapdragon X series laptops are here. Microsoft has launched its first Snapdragon X series Surface and Surface Pro laptops with Copilot+ and several other features. The Surface Laptops come with a hoard of new features and AI advancements including, Recall, Windows Studio Effects, Live Captions, and more.

Microsoft Surface Laptop 

The Microsoft Surface Laptop comes with either the Snapdragon X Plus or the Snapdragon X Elite chip. It will be available in the usual 13.8-inch and 15-inch sizes. However, the 15-inch size only comes with the Snapdragon X Elite chip.

The new Snapdragon X series chips are more powerful and power-efficient than the Intel counterparts. This enables the Microsoft Surface Laptop to deliver 80% faster performance while delivering 22 hours of video playback on a single charge (20 hours on the 13.8-inch model).

As for the memory and storage, you can get up to 32 GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 1 TB of SSD. And yes, the SSD slots are still easy to access and replaceable.

The laptop comes with usual I/O—2x USB-C multi-purpose ports, a Surface Connect port, 1x USB 3.1 port, and a headphone jack. The 15-inch model comes with a Micro SD card reader as well. Both models come with Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 as well.

In the US, the Surface Laptop starts at $999 with the Snapdragon X Plus chip and an LCD screen and $1399 with Snapdragon X Elite and an OLED screen. The Indian prices will soon be revealed by Microsoft.

Microsoft Surface Pro

The Surface Pro laptop comes in two configurations featuring either the Snapdragon X Plus or the Snapdragon X Elite processors, coupled with the Qualcomm Hexagon NPU delivering 45 trillion operations per second, just like the Surface Laptop. 

You have the choice between 16GB or 32GB of LPDDR5X RAM, and storage options range from 256GB to 1TB of removable Gen 4 SSD. Display options include a 13-inch PixelSense Flow display available in both OLED and LCD versions. Both displays offer a resolution of 2880 x 1920 (267 PPI) and a dynamic refresh rate of up to 120 Hz. 

Battery life is impressive, with the Surface Pro Wi-Fi model delivering up to 14 hours of local video playback and up to 10 hours of active web usage. The device supports various connectivity options, including 2x USB-C/USB4 ports, Surface Connect port, and a NanoSIM slot. The laptop also features Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 for wireless connectivity.
