TL; DR
- PS6 leaks claim over 10x ray tracing improvement and AI upscaling of “multiple magnitudes” over the PS5.
- Full backward compatibility with both PS4 and PS5 titles confirmed, including RT-dependent games.
- A PS6 handheld using the “Canis” APU is part of the same ecosystem, with a late 2027 launch expected.
A new PS6 leak based on an internal AMD document reveals over 10x ray tracing performance over the PS5, AI upscaling improvements of “multiple magnitudes,” and full PS4/PS5 backward compatibility.
The rumor mill isn’t sparing the PS6, and the latest leak about the gaming console, sourced from an internal AMD document shared by Moore’s Law Is Dead (MLID) paints it in a good light, especially for buyers who would upgrade from the PS4 or PS5.

10x Better Ray Tracing Sounds Like A Generational Leap

First, the leaker claims that the PS6 could receive a 10-fold improvement in ray tracing performance (compared to the PS5), thanks to AMD’s next-gen RDNA 5 architecture. In other words, gamers won’t have to choose between visual quality and frame rate on the PS6, as both could go hand in hand.
The leaker also claims that the console would offer a “multiple magnitude increase” in AI performance, which would directly help the upscaling technology like PSSR 3.0. Simply put, games on PS6 could look dramatically sharper without demanding more GPU muscle.
Another crucial aspect, rasterization performance, is expected to see a slightly more modest 2.5-3x improvement over the base PS5, targeting 4K at 120 fps as the consistent baseline.

Full Backward Compatibility With PS5 And PS4 Comes As A Relief
Both the PlayStation 6 and its rumored handheld companion are rumored to provide full backward compatibility with the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 titles, which would increase the launch library exponentially.
The PS6 handheld, which is built around the “Canis” APU, is described as a fully integrated part of the same PS6 ecosystem; Sony might not market it as a standalone device. For now, the PS6 is expected to arrive sometime in 2028 or 2029. We’ll keep you posted about any further updates.
