Qualcomm, a leading smartphone chipset manufacturer, has launched a new SoC for – Snapdragon 8S Gen 3. This new offering aims to provide flagship-level performance at a more affordable price, making advanced features like on-device generative AI accessible to a wider range of consumers.

The Snapdragon 8S Gen 3 is positioned as a tier below Qualcomm’s current flagship, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. The intention behind this move is to meet the increasing demand for powerful yet cost-effective smartphones.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 8S Gen 3 Specs and features

Under the hood, the Snapdragon 8S Gen 3 combines processing power with advanced AI capabilities. It features a GPU similar to the flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and a prime core running at up to 3.0GHz. This ensures smooth and responsive performance for demanding tasks. The standout feature of this chipset is its support for on-device generative AI models. Users can expect faster and more efficient AI experiences without relying on constant cloud connectivity.

The Snapdragon 8S Gen 3 enables the use of generative AI virtual assistants and image expansion capabilities. This means users can enjoy the benefits of a personal AI assistant that understands natural language, generates human-like responses, and manipulates images while prioritizing user privacy and data security. Additionally, the chipset supports hardware-accelerated ray tracing, enhancing graphics and gaming experiences on mobile devices.

Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 Phones

Qualcomm’s goal with the Snapdragon 8S Gen 3 is to regain the lost ground in the mid-range and affordable flagship smartphone market. MediaTek has been dominating the mid-tier and affordable segment in recent times. With the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, Qualcomm is teaming up with several brands, including Honor, iQOO, Realme, Redmi, and Xiaomi to regain its lost foot in the mass market. These Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 phones are expected to hit the market in the coming months. Expect the first Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 phone to launch in India sometime in May 2024.
