Samsung partnered with AMD to bring RDNA GPU to its Exynos line of chipsets. We saw it in the last-gen Exynos 2400 and things are likely to remain the same with Exynos 2500 arriving next year. However, it seems like the South Korean giant is likely to put an end to its partnership with AMD and consider developing in-house GPU cores for Exynos chipsets.

The folks at OreXDA floated the information last year. Cut to now, both OreXDA and renowned tipster Roland Quandt are optimistic that Samsung may soon develop an in-house GPU to power Exynos 2600 in 2026.

The reports further add that Samsung won’t simply let go of AMD RDNA GPU but rather use it as the foundation to build Samsung’s GPU once the plan pans out with Exynos 2600. It is akin to how Qualcomm uses AMD Radeon as the foundation for its Adreno line of GPU cores. For the unversed, Qualcomm’s Adreno is an anagram to AMD’s Radeon.

Samsung could soon ditch AMD RDNA cores for in-house GPU

The South Korean giant already had plans to build in-house GPUs, however, it scrapped the plans in 2020. However, with the influx of Qualcomm rolling out its custom-made Oryon cores, things might just be right for Samsung to consider building cores of its own.

Note that things will remain the same with the Exynos 2500 SoC that powers the Samsung Galaxy S25 series next year. Samsung may soon incorporate AMD RDNA GPUs across mid-range chipsets just like it did with Exynos 1480. However, if everything works out, we should see future Exynos SoCs (starting Exynos 2600 in 2026), powered by Samsung’s GPU cores.

Unfortunately, details regarding the Exynos 2600 and its potential Samsung-made GPU cores are scarce. Thus, we will have to wait until more information isn’t available about the same.
